The Soufflot Swivelling Armchair by Jean-Philippe Nuel was designed for the remarkable 32-metre-high dome of Lyon’s former Hôtel-Dieu, now the Hotel Intercontinental. Its rounded, enveloping form reflects the architectural volumes of the space that inspired it, creating a refined armchair with a strong sense of place.

The swivelling version combines generous comfort with a considered, sculptural silhouette. Its upholstered form is supported by a black epoxy-lacquered steel base with an indexed rotating mechanism that returns the chair to its original position when you get up.

Materials & Construction

The Soufflot Swivelling Armchair features a mechanically welded tubular steel structure in the armrests and back, clad in foam and 110 g/m² polyester quilting. The seat structure is made from three-layer particleboard and supported by linked biconical steel wire springs.

The seat combines high-resilience polyurethane foams for supportive comfort, while the back uses injected polyurethane foam layered with high-resilience foam and polyester quilting. A 5 mm baguette stitch defines the perimeter of the back and seat, adding a precise finish to the upholstered form.

The swivelling version is fitted with a 6 mm thick epoxy black-lacquered steel base and an indexed rotating mechanism that returns the chair to its original position when you get up.
